Tips for Caring for Your Invisalign Clear Aligners

At Maplewood Dental Associates, it's our goal to provide healthy smiles for the entire family. We pride ourselves on our comprehensive selection of dental services in areas such as preventative, restorative, cosmetic, and general dentistry. In addition to our wide range of dental treatments, we're also proud to offer Invisalign, an orthodontic treatment dedicated to giving you the straightest smile possible. If you have Invisalign, it's important to care for its aligners so you can make sure that the treatment will progress as planned. Here are a few tips when it comes to caring for your aligners.

Always Keep Your Aligners Clean

In the same way that your mouth is exposed to bacteria and plaque, your aligners are exposed as well. This is why you need to clean them just as regularly as you clean your teeth. Whenever you brush your teeth, brush your aligners as well. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and toothpaste, brushing in the same way that you'd brush your own teeth. Make sure to give it a thorough rinsing afterward.

Don't Eat or Drink Anything Hot While the Aligners Are In

While you should always remove your aligners before eating or drinking anything, you especially need to remove them if you're going to consume anything hot. Your aligners are made up of a plastic resin, meaning that heat can warp or distort them. If you happen to be drinking a hot beverage, make sure to remove the aligners first.

Keep Them in the Case When You're Not Using Them

Whether you're eating anything, drinking anything that's hot, brushing your teeth, or doing a number of other things that may have you taking your aligners out, it's important to keep them in the case we provide for you. This case will keep your aligners from getting dirty. It will also help make sure that you don't lose your aligners and that you know where they are.
